So, today kind of sucked, what with getting robbed and such, but one thing made it better. It's Friday. Which, of course, means Glee songs for next week. There are four Warbler's songs, you guys. For serious, it's amazing. So, basically, I've decided to review them and maybe talk about context (even though, much like Animal, thinking any of these songs has context will ultimately lead to heartbreak). Obviously, if you don't care, you can just pass this by. <3

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS IN THIS POST!

So, when I woke up this morning, the first song I got was the lovely, the amazing...
CANDLES!

Now, most of tumblr/lj considers this to be the weakest of all of the songs released today. I've heard people say that they think it sounds weird or something. But I don't agree. I'm kind of madly in love with it. In fact it's probably my favourite (which is surprising because...Blackbird). Kurt gets to sing in his upper register which will always make me melt and him and Blaine sound fabulous together. I listened to these first while walking to school and I legit got a tad misty eyed. I think my neighbour thinks I'm crazy now. Wouldn't be the first time. The ending is especially amazing. I...honestly can't with how much I'm in love with it.

Now, time for context. So, Candles is being performed for Regionals, but that in no way means it won't have meaning. The ND songs have a point to them, so why not the Warbler songs, right? Now, I think Kurt's going to decide to transfer back before the competition actually takes place and with that in mind, this song could make a lot of sense. A lot of people see this as bad for Klaine because...well...it's not a happy song. HOWEVER, it could very well be Kurt singing about Karofsky. The guy made his life a living hell, but now he's learning to get past it.

So, this begs the question of why it isn't just a Kurt solo. I was considering this while I listened to this song for 112th time. Blaine's talked about being bullied before. However, we've never really elaborated on it. It's possible we'll get some light shed on it in this episode. OR (and this is the theory I'm sticking with) this could be about his Dad. Blaine mentioning his Dad last episode made me both super excited and super sad. Excited because, well, didn't I say Blaine was lacking in support? Sad because my baby Blaine deserves a family who loves him. Now, Brad wrote that episode and he's writing this one too. Brad is awesome because he actually DEVELOPES CHARACTERS! So, what if that line wasn't just a throw away line, but foreshadowing to Blaine's Dad being an epic buttface? That would give this song context and they might be able to bring this around and use it to justify Blaine's transfer somehow (maybe his Dad stops paying for Dalton because he sees his son singing with a boy or something or maybe Blaine gets kicked out, I don't know). So, yeah. Could work. The song is beautiful!

Next up is...
RAISE YOUR GLASS!

People don't like this song either which is crazy because it's awesome possum. I mean, it totes sounds like a party and it makes me want to dance around like a fool for hours (I'll probably do this later, just FYI).

Context wise, I've heard a theory about this (and Candles too) that I have chosen to make my personal head canon forever and a day. So, we've learned that the judges for Regionals are all conservative/religious people who are haters. What if the Warblers find this out and are all pissed because Kurt and Blaine are part of their family and if you hate on one of them you hate on ALL of them? They decide the only thing to do is basically give the judges the finger by not only having two gay boys have a duet together, but also sing a song like this which is all about being yourself and not letting haters get you down. Basically, the Warblers are awesome and when they leave I will legitimately be upset.

Next...
BLACKBIRD!

Oh My God. Can Chris Colfer sing every song known to man? Please? I am so in love with this. On the first listen, I didn't like it too much because I thought it would be in a higher key (and I can not get enough of Kurt's higher register) but once I got over that I realised it's seriously beautiful. And the Warblers...OMG THE WARBLERS! They sound so good backing Kurt up!

Context wise, this could be sung when Pav dies. It makes sense (except that the Warblers aren't at the funeral so...). It could also happen at the end as Kurt's leaving (which I think would be amazing, except that there's a song that fits that moment better). Before we learned about Misery I thought for sure this was going to be a parting song. Now, I'm not so sure. I'll honestly be happy as long as the song has at least A LITTLE to do with Kurt's transfer.

Finally...
MISERY!

This song makes me smile. It doesn't make me as excited as the other three songs (which, once again, makes me different that the rest of fandom) but I do like it. Darren Criss has the perfect voice to sing Maroon 5 and it definitely lived up to my expectations.

Context wise, it would be lovely if this is when Blaine gets hit with the clue bat. It's about time he realised he's COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY IN LOVE with Kurt. This song would probably work best if it's sung at the end of the episode while a montage of Kurt leaving plays. It would be a great segue into Blaine transferring (although I HOPE AGAINST HOPE that if he does transfer it isn't just for Kurt) and we as an audience would finally know Klaine is on.

BONUS NEW DIRECTIONS SONGS!
Loser Like Me is terrible. The message is alright, but the song...ew.
Get It Right is okay I guess.
HELL TO THE NO IS A MASTERPIECE THE LIKES OF WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE THE GENIUS THAT IS MY HEADBAND.
I honestly don't think ND deserves to win. But alas, they probably will. *shrugs*

MORE BONUS MATERIAL (It's like a special edition DVD or something :P)
The lovelies at [livejournal.com profile] kurt_blaine have been ranking the Warbler's songs (as after this episode we won't being seeing them anymore D:) and I thought I'd leave my list. It'll probably change post-episode because the performance quality has A LOT to do with my choices.
(BICO is included even though it isn't a Warbler's song. Just because.)

1. Bills, Bills, Bills
2. Teenage Dream
3. Candles
4. Raise Your Glass
5. Blackbird
6. When I Get You Alone
7. Baby It's Cold Outside
8. Misery
9. Silly Love Songs
10. Animal
11. Hey Soul Sister

Aww, thanks for the hugs. Yeah, my locker at school was broken into and all of my notes were taken as well as one of my text books. Luckily, I have people who are helping me by getting me the notes that are now gone so I'm not too broken up about it, but it still sucks.
